As Cyan reaches its 5th birthday we’re delighted by the ever-increasing impact of our technology in counter terror and child sexual abuse investigations in the UK, and now in the US and Canada too. It’s been a busy and exciting year, and I wanted to share some of our highlights.
At the start of 2021 we created a new Advisory Board to provide strategic input as we grow internationally and expand into new markets. Chaired by Sir Mark Rowley, the Advisory Board brings a huge breadth and depth of insights into the markets and communities we are part of.
In March, we successfully completed a Series A investment round of just over £5 million led by Par Equity. This is being applied to accelerate our growth plans internationally in Law Enforcement and to invest further developing in our next generation Online Safety technologies.
People are at the heart of our growth plans and several key appointments across the company demonstrate our commitment to building a world-class team.
We bolstered the international expertise on our board with the appointments of Tobin Ireland and Ciara Smyth as non-executive directors; Gavin Cowie joined us as VP of Engineering in August, and we made several significant managerial appointments across our marketing; and product and business development teams.
This past year also saw support for our digital triage tools from the US National Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as they recognised Cyan’s tools will contribute directly to safeguarding children, following an assessment of the technology. NCMEC is one of the foremost bodies in the US fighting to prevent child sexual exploitation and we look forward to continuing to work closely with them.
Over the last few weeks, it’s been exciting to start getting back to in-person meetings – within the team, with customers and at events. We’re starting to get a tantalizing glimpse of what a post-COVID future looks like for us, with hybrid working and an increasingly distributed and international team.
A huge thank you to everyone who continues to support us on our journey – the impact and benefit of the collaborations and partnerships we have fostered cannot be underestimated.
I have real pride in where we have come over the past five years. I’m excited with where we are now, and with what is in front of us. I know this feeling is shared by my colleagues and I am looking forward to celebrating with them this week – virtually or otherwise!
